Abstract: Microwave technique was successfully applied to kill pine wood nematode in timber for the first time in China. By means of testing the corresponding technical indices, both the critical temperatures of death of pine wood nematode and rusty pine longicorn beetle and the effective processing time of pine wood with different thickness and humidity are figured out. After being processed, rusty pine longicorn beetle and pine wood nematode in infected wood could be killed 100%, which meets the corresponding requirements of the national standard. The results of safety and stability measurement indicate that the leak of microwave is lower than that of the national standard, while output power of microwave is stable, and the conveying system runs normally. The processing technique, which is efficient, environment-friendly, safe and reliable, advanced and applicable, provides a new method for processing pine wood infected with nematode and could be applied to kill pests in sheets within a certain thickness. It is safe to say that the technique will play an important role in elimination of pests for infected pine wood.
