Jiangsu province is one of the fast economic developing areas in China. It has been anticipated that this area will reach high urbanization with fast development in cities and cou- ntrisides. In the process of fast urbanization, the function of state road network becomes more complex and diversified. The author analyzed the coherency of fast urbanization and highway traffic and studied the effect of urbanization on highway traffic development. Ac- cording to the characteristics of urbanization and highway development, the trend of highway network development in fast urbanization area was revealed from the respects of scale, grade, distribution, profile, cross-section and node treatment of road network.
