Abstract: The litter storages, its seasonal variation and annual litter falls of Maolan Karst forest in midsubtropical zone were studied. The average annual litter falls of Maolan Karst forest was 2.86 t/hm2, which was lower than the other forest types. Among the litter compositions, the leaf accounted for the majority of all litter falls, while leaf falls of evergreen species merely accounted for half of those of the deciduous species. In the seasonal variation, a peak of the litter falls emerge in autumn and was mainly composed of the deciduous species, and leaf falls variation of evergreen species was not obvious and comparatively stable. These rules were the results of the longterm adaption of plant biological and ecological characteristics to azonal Karst factors.
