Abstract: Effects of strand geometry and orientation of fast growing poplar shaving on the mechanical properties of laminated strand lumber were studied. The results showed that the increase of strand length could improve MOR and MOE and reduce IB of LSL. However, change of strand width had little influence on the mechanical property of LSL, but increasing strand thickness leads to decrease of mechanical property of LSL. Surface orientation angle has a significant influence on the property of LSL. Alignment of face strands improve the properties of lumber in the direction of alignment and reduced the properties perpendicular to the direction of alignment; compared to the surface strand layer, alignment of core strand layer have small influence on the properties; while the core layer is randomly aligned, internal bond improves to some extent.
