Abstract: The shallow top soil in Nanjing was selected as the sample to investigate, the freezing temperature was measured by selfdeveloped equipment. Freezing temperatures of different soils, such as muddy clay, silty clay, mealy sand, at different moisture content, salt content and water quality were analyzed. The results showed that soil freezing temperature enhanced nearlylinearly with moisture content increasing at the equipmental condition. On the other hand, soil freezing temperature decreased sharply with the salt content increasing. However, changes of dry density had hardly influence on freezing temperature.
