Abstract: The developmental threshold temperatures and effective cumulative temperatures in the Hemiberlesia pitysophila Takagi were measured using a combination of constant temperatures feeding and forest observation. The results showed that: The threshold temperatures for the development of the first instar nympha, the second instar nympha, the pupa and the female adult were(6.99±0.23) ℃,(8.74±1.06) ℃,(13.08±1.56) ℃,(9.44±1.22) ℃,respectively. The effective cumulative temperatures for the development of the first instar nympha, the second instar nympha, the pupa and the female adult were 208.30 ℃〖DK〗·d,200.23 ℃〖DK〗·d,77.61 ℃〖DK〗·d,477.80 ℃〖DK〗·d,respectively. And 810.87 ℃〖DK〗·d were needed to complete one generation(10.47±1.03) ℃.The oneyears generation number of the scale in various counties of Fujian province and Guangdong province were evaluated using the method of effective cumulative temperatures principle. The results were proved to be consistent with the facts reported, so our study provided a scientific basis for the forecast and control of this insect.
