Abstract: Experiments on drying the lumber of Firms Khorajensis Sieb. et Zucc. and P. massoniana Lamb, of 20-55 mm thickness by using far-infrared rays were made. Forced draught equipment was employed in the kiln to improve the evenness in drying. Results proved to be satisfactory. It was found in practice that it is the heat convection of mediums, not the infrared radiation, that plays the predominant part in the drying process. Through a simple test, the mechanism of wood drying has been found out. The test also showed that the percentage of the radiation energy used was less than 5. This will surely be very useful in the correct understanding and application of the technique of far-infrared drying.
