Abstract: Based on the study of reaction between turpentine from Pinus massoniana and phenol, an optimized catalyst system was used to obtain the best processing condition. Friedel-Craft’s reaction was carried out between turpentine and phenol at molar ratio of 1:0.5?:0.7 with 4% of catalyst in reactants at temperature of 25?0-. A pale yellow resin with Gardner Color 7? and soft point over 115- was obtained at a yeild above 90% (in the weight of the total raw materials used). The prepared resin was found useful in rubber and protecting tape industries according to results of application. The study provides some reliable data for further industrial testing.
