Abstract: In spite of the fact that the mangroves render invaluable ecological and environmental services,the people are unknowingly destroying them in the name of economic development.Sound scientific knowledge is essential to management of the reminder of tropical mangrove ecosystems,because of their extensive and rapid deforestation and extraction of fresh water,fisheries,aquaculture,industry,human settlement,waste dumping and the like.Hence,to identify some of the causes for degradation of Coringa mangrove ecosystem,the invading factors such as changed landuse practices,changes in the cropping composition of agriculture and its consequential imbalances creating acute shortage of societal basic resources like fodder,fuel wood and timber etc.,in the hinterland areas were analyzed.Information pertaining to the different landuse practices,crop composition,community basic needs and their availability was gathered from the study area through field surveys and personal communication with local people.And finally,some ecoeconomic and sustainable solutions were offered.
