Abstract: Pathogenic fungi effector proteins play an important role in infecting their host plants. At present, identification and functional studies of the effector proteins are the emphasis and difficulty for disease resistance research in plants. Based on Marssonina brunnea f.sp. multigermtubi genome sequence and structural characteristics of fungal effector proteins, we predicted 106 candidate effectors, and 25 of them were successfully cloned. Then, we used poplar protoplast transient expression system to study the intracellular function of these 25 candidate effectors, and 4 of them were identified to inhibit the activity of poplar transcription factor WRKY29 promoter, which is involved in poplar immune system. The results indicated that these 4 effector proteins might play important roles in disturbing the signal transduction pathway of plant immune system.
