Abstract: To explore the impact of stand age class on litter decomposition process, initial chemical composition, decomposition rate and nutrient releasing process of needle litter were studied with litter bag method in 24, 32, and 40 years old Pinus tabulaeformis plantations in Beijing mountain areas. The results showed that initial inorganic nutrient content, ash content, crude protein content and C/N value were significant differences among three stand ages(p<0.05).Dynamic changes of needle litter weight loss rate were a double-peak curves with an obvious seasonal dynamics. The average annual decomposition rate and decomposition coefficient(k)gradually increased with the stand age. Repeated test showed that weight loss rate, percentage of N remaining were significant differences at different stand ages, but percentage of P, K, Ca, and Mg accumulation and release were not obviously effected by the stand ages(p<0.05).
