Abstract: Using the alkali acid process, the polycondensation resin were synthesized using urea, glyoxal and polyvinyl alcohol as the raw material, and it was used for the preparation of plywood. Central composite experimental design using Design-Expert 8.0.6, was used to examine the effects of molar ratio, polyvinyl alcohol dosage(mass percentage), the addition reaction(OH-)and polycondensation reaction(H+)of pH values on the resin synthesis and gluing properties. The results showed that the bonding strength of urea-glyoxal-polyvinyl alcohol resin could not reach the standard of Class II of plywood, but the formaldehyde emission of which could reach the level of E0 class.
