Abstract: To expand the application and extend the service life of laminated veneer lumber(LVL)products, this study focused on the development of preservative-treated masson pine LVL using the non-pressure veneer soaking treatment with alkaline copper quaternary(ACQ)and copper azole(CuAz). The effects of veneer treatments with preservative types and loading levels on the decay resistance, physical and mechanical properties of LVL were investigated. The results demonstrated that the treatments significantly enhanced the decay resistance of LVL. The bending properties of treated LVL met the requirements of grade 120E to 160E, while the shear strength exceeded the specification of grade 50V-43H according to the standard GB/T 20241—2006. All treated LVLs had low delamination rate ranging from 0.1% to 0.8%. The statistical analysis showed that there were no significant differences in physical and mechanical properties among treated and untreated groups. The study suggested that ACQ and CuAz pretreatment is a promising method to make masson pine LVL with strong decay resistance and required physical and mechanical properties.
