Studies on Vegetative Propagation in the Genus Lycoris

Abstract: The genus Lycoris (Amaryllidaceae)is native to China,and is one of rare bulb flower plants that blossom in summer and autumn.The flowers of Lycoris were characterized with their plentiful colors as well as beautiful and varied shapes.Their medicinal value is very high for a plenty of Galanthamine,is an alkaloid,which is wildly distributed in the genus Lycoris .The plants are tolerant to drought,waterlogging,and grow vigorously even in barren land,and thus showing good prospects in horticulture and medicine.But the speed of vegetation propagation is very slow,and the plant products only 1~2 new bulblet every year.A new economic and effective method of propagation has been explored.Studies of incising and cultivation are conducted on Lycoris radiata (L′Her)Herb., L.sprengeri Comes ex Baker, L.aurea (L′Her)Herb.While the research of twin scaling is progressed on L.radiata and L.longituba Y.Hsu et Q.J.Fan.The results are as follows:(1)Marked difference was observed on the formation of bulblets among 4 species.Whereas the highest propagation coefficient was obtained on L.chinensis .There was no significant difference between the twice excision and the thrice excision.(2)There was marked difference on the growing rate of bulblet among species,the plant growth regulation concentrations and position of twin scale.The growing rate of bulblet of L.radiata was higher than that of L.longituba .Of the plant growth regulation concentration,BA (500 mg/L) was best,with propagation coefficient 25 times.(3)The develop speed had a significantly different among 4 species. L.aurea had the fastest develop speed,which the biggest circumference of bulblet 16.7 cm and the biggest weight 89.8 g.(4)By the twin scaling,the more bulblets could be obtained,but by the excising,the better and bigger bulblets were formed in a short time.50% bulblets could reach standard after 2 years on L.radiata and L.aurea.
