Abstract: Acidcatalyzed additional reactions of camphene with alcohols were investigated in the airtight pot reactor heated by microwaves in order to reduce the reaction time in the conventional heating conditions. The additional reaction was catalyzed with ptoluenesulfonic acid. The results indicated that microwave irradiation could enhance greatly the rate of these reactions compared with conventional heating conditions.Reaction times were reduced from 15~30 h using conventional conditions,to 30 min by microwave dielectric heating.Content of isobornyl propyl ether in the reactant was 59.0% using microwave dielectric heating. While the branches of alcohols decreased the reaction rate because of the spatial obstruct. The methodology simplified the procedure and overcame the drawbacks resulting from the long reaction times required under conventional heating conditions.
