Abstract: More and more attentions have heen paid by some scientists and even the whole society to blue algae blooming and drinking water pollution caused by water body eutrophication in Taihu Lake. At present, ecological forest shelterhehs surrounding Taihu Lake watershed having been established as an important ecological restoration program. In this paper, aulhors have analyzed the main causes of water quality decline and non-point pollutant sources. Some research progress has beers sommarized about the structure and function of riparian ecosystems, including the mechaoisms for the shelterbehs to coutrol and alleviate agricultural non-point pollutants and factors to influence their ecologieal effects. Eurthermore. sonw key methods and techniques have been applied in the classification of ripariaa ecosystem types, functional zones and site conditions, the appropriate width of riparian shelterbelts and the selectiou of plant species and their spacial allocation. Finally, some suggestions have also been given on how to establish available ecological measurements and economic policies as a reference for the construction and sustainable management of Taihu riparian shelterbelts in future.
