Abstract: The seed biological characters of Melia azedarach L. from 10 different provenances were studied, which included seed length, width, seed length and width ratio, one thousand seed weight, seed moisture content, germination percentage, germination index, vigor index and respiration rate. The results showed that there was a significant variability in seed morphology among different provenances. According to the correlation analysis between seed traits and the stand environment as well as geographical locations, there were no close relationships. There were some correlation between seed size and latitudinal, but seed shape was negatively correlated with latitude. According to the cluster analysis of seed morphology, the natural range of Melia azedarach L. from 10 different provenances could be divided into 5 districts. The seed germination percentage, germination index, vigor index and respiration rate were significantly different among different provenances. The seed germination percentage, germination index, vigor index were significantly correlated with respiration rate, but not closely correlated with seed morphology, which showed that seed vigor was more influenced by seed physical condition.
