Abstract: X-ray rad1ographic images of Pinus ellioitii Engelm var. elliottii seeds were transferred into digital signals and put in computer by photodigitizer. Since the quality of the images was improved significantly through digital image processing (DIP), embryo (E), embryo cavity (EC), endosperm (EN) and seed cavity (SC) were delineated on the screen of monitor. In this way, the calculation on the ratios of the areas between E and EC and between EN and SC were computerized. It is suggested that by means of DIP the development of seeds could be quantified promptly, which would be of great value to seeds testing and seed research work.
