Abstract: One year old aspen cuttings, including three hybrid clones of Populus tremula × P. tremuloides and one clone of P. davidiana, were tested for analyzing the changes of the physiological and biochemical indexes related to cold resistance of the clones from 25 ℃ to 15 ℃,10 ℃,5 ℃ and 0 ℃ using climate chamber to simulate natural temperature reduction. The results showed that the endogenous ABA content, soluble protein and malondialdehyde content(MDA)of the clones increased along the temperature cooling down, the activities of SOD of the clones trended in up and down first, and then up again. The endogenous ABA, soluble protein and MDA content of clone Ptr3 and Ptr2 were relatively higher than that of Chinese aspen during the treating process. Therefore, the hybrid aspen adapted to plant in northeast part of China because of good adaptability to the condition of introduction area.
