Abstract: 【Objective】To further elucidate the special habits of the non-flowering and leaf periods of Lycoris radiata, it is necessary to explore the rate of growth and development of different organs(roots, bulbs and leaves). 【Method】The biomass composition(bulbs, roots and leaves), root vigor, and the replacement rate for L. radiata during the leaf period were studied with the combined methods of Triphenyltetrazolium chloride(TTC )and root scanning. 【Result】 During the leaf period(from October to April in the next year), the total biomass of L. radiata continued to increase, and the dry weight of leaves and roots experienced similar trends in change in dry weight(initially increasing and then decreasing). However, they reached a maximum in December and January. Conversely, the bulbs exhibited a different trend(continuously increasing)during the same time, and their dry weight was the highest in May. 【Conclusion】The results showed that the growth rhythm of roots and leaves was similar, although the root phenology was slightly earlier. During the leaf phase, there was scarcely any root germination, but root elongation growth occurred. In addition, the old roots declined gradually from January to April, and new roots germinated in May. Furthermore, new secondary roots mainly germinated from November to December.
