A new ornamental crabapple cultivar ‘Luokeke Nüshi’

Abstract: Malus ‘Luokeke Nüshi’ is a new and excellent crabapple cultivar that has been selected from the progeny of M. ‘Purple Prince’. This cultivar possesses umbel inflorescence with semidouble-flower(ten petals). The corolla is deep cup-shaped and similar to lady’s skirt. The color of flower buds is purple-red and changed into bright purple-red without obvious fading when it is blooming. Flowers are relatively large(5.0 cm in diameter)with elliptical and overlapping petals. The tree has a spreading canopy with medium tree vigor. The time of beginning of blooming(10% open flowers)is in early April in Jiangsu, the flowering duration can be up to ten days. No serious pest and disease had been observed.
