Abstract: Polymer foaming technology and wood-based composite technology are used for producing sound-absorbing composite materials using wood fiber and polyester fiber as the raw materials in this paper, and the effects of the preparing conditions on the mechanical properties and sound-absorbing performance of the composite were investigated. The results show that it is feasible to add the adhesive and a foaming agent into wood fibers and polyester fibers to make a composite material, and the optimum conditions were determined as follows: hot pressing temperature 150 ℃ and composite time is 10 min. In a certain temperature range, the mechanical properties are improved along with time increasing, while the time has little effect on the acoustic performance. And in a certain time range, as the temperature increases, both the mechanical properties and acoustic performance improved. The average absorption coefficient of the material is 0.65 at the temperature 140 ℃ in the range from 1 600 Hz to 4 000 Hz, while it is 0.7 at 150 ℃.
