Influence of modification of UV-curing wood coatings with SiO2 on its mechanical properties and gloss

Abstract

Influence of UV-curing wood coatings modification with SiO2 on its mechanical properties and gloss was investigated in this paper. UV curing wood coatings were modified by SiO2, and then the glossiness and mechanical properties including hardness, adhesion,resistance impact strength of film coating formed under the optimum modification conditions were tested. It was found that UV curing wood coatings had good hardness, adhesion and impact strength when the SiO2 content was 0.66%-1.32%, the dry time was 2 min and UV lamp was 3, but the mechanical properties of coatings decreased and their glossiness displayed matt when the SiO2 content was over 1.32%.
