Abstract

Both the recent and ancient B. polycarpa MWLS were characterized by chemical and spectral methods. No remarkable structural differences between the recent and ancient lignins were found. The slight changes of the lignin structure were revealed by the decrease of the molecular weight and methtoxyl groups, and the increase of the hydroxyl groups, chromophores and the condensed units.
