Abstract: Using soft broad-leaved wood as the raw material of destructive distillation, the experiments were to define its technological conditions. Charcoal was then activated by steam. The effect of charges of steam consumption, temperature and time on the adsorptive power and yield of activated carbon has been studied. The result showed that the wood of Populus deltodes could be used as the raw material for activated carbon. The temperature of destructive distillation was about 480- with the yield of 31.44%. The optimum conditions were to activated at the temperature of 900- for 4 hours; steam consumption was 180 ml/120g char. The methylene blue decoloration of produced powder activated carbon had 14.8ml, the yield was 36.2%.
