Abstract: Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata Hook,) is one of several species with strong sprout capacity in needle-leaved trees. There are dormancy buds (or latent buds), even on its one-year stem. In this paper, the biological characteristics of the position, growth, branching, dormancy and death of the buds, in relation to the planting depth and height of stump for sprout regeneration have been analysised and discussed.
