Abstract: In low mountain areas of Jiangsu and the northeastern part of Jiangxi provinces, data from 33 representative profiles showed that soil great groups or subgroups and their distribution did not fully coincide with the classical theory of soil zonality. And it can be seen in ordination figure, in which data sets were stratified according to climatic and geomorphic fators separately, that there are at least two horizontal zonal spectra of soils coexisting within the transitional region from humid warm temperate zone to subtropics: one presents itself on ancient weathering crusts of foothill or terrace, another concerns the soils on modern erosion surface of slope only. These two spectra partly overlap each other and may be likened to the fallen dominos, and thus a partly overlapping pattern of dual (or even multiple) horizontal zonalities emerges.
