Abstract: Materials for karyotype analyses for Viburnum macrocephalum and V. sympodiale Graebn. are cultivated in Agricultural Academy of Jiangxi province and Huangshan of Anhui province. The numbers of chromosomes in growing-tip and root-tip cells of these two species are both 2n = 18, agreeing with those reported by Egolf. A comparison of the karyotypical data is shown in tables 1 and 2. According to the chromosomal terminology defined by Levan et al., the karyotypes formula of Viburnum sympodiale and V. macrocephalum is K(2n) =18 = 16m + 2sm. They both belong to "2B" type of Stebbins’ karyotypic asymmetry. But there are differences in ranges of ratio arm and length in V. macrocephalum and V. sympodiale, it is assumed that V. macrocephalum karyotype is a little more advanced than that of V. sympodiale.Photomicrographs, karyotypes and idiograms of V. sympodiale and 7. macrocephalum are shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
