ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF NUTRITIONAL QUALITY OF CHINESE FIR PLANTATIONS

Abstract

In 1987-1988 twelve sample plots were established in Chinese fir plantations of different age and site conditions in Fudong Forest Farm, Jiangxi province. Tree growth, soil properties and needle nutrient content were investigated in respect to the development stages of stands. By means of covariance analysis, principal compenent analysis and cluster analysis, the factors which affect the nutritional quality and their variation were appropriately discussed. Mother rocks, topographic conditions, stand stage, wind soil water content affected considerably the nutritional quality of Chinese fir trees, particularly with even more prominence of the first three, Thickness of soil and A + AB layer and contents of stones, organic matter, total nitrogen, hydrolized nitrogen, effective phosphorus and quick potassium were important factors for evaluating nutritional quality of Chinese fir stands and classification of site nutritional types which is important for nutritional management of Chinese fir plantations.
