The paper mainly deals with root distribution characteristics of shelter-forest belt for farmland. The conclusions are as follows:(1)In the soil of road or ditch slope, root biomass and its length rapidly decreases with the strenth of distance. The proportion of fine roots (diameter<1 mm) near forest-belt is lower than that of farther spot. (2)Compared with road, the number of the fine roots in the soil of farmland is much higher. (3) Whether in the soil of road or farmland, tree roots mainly concentrate on a range of 0-40 cm, whereas the large root in the soil of road can reach the deep soil.
