China is the center of geographical distrbution of Osmanthus genus plants in the world. Research of Osmanthus genus focuses mainly on the Osmanthus fragrans which is Chinese traditional and famous ornamental plant at present.The research is related to germplasm resources,cultivar classification,chemical constituents,cultivating and propagation,senescence and hardiness physiology etc.Resently,the central aim and task is applying to International Cultivar Registration Authority(ICRA.) for Osmanthus and O.fragrans cultivers as soon as possible.Centering on this task,studies should be focused on:investigating clearly the germ plasm of Osmanthus and cultivars of O.fragrans;establishing and perfecting the classification system of O.fragrans cultivars and so on.
