Abstract: Xiaokeng small basin, which located in the subtropical zone of Anhui, was selected as the study area. We made a primary assessment on vegetation recovery and productivity level of forest since it has been protected. Castanopsis eyrei, Castanopsis sclerophylla, Cyclobalanopsis glauca and Lithocarpus harlandii were appraised. The average community biomass of the above 4 species was 120.165, 96.168, 72.73 and 80.416 t/hm2 respectively. In the above communities, the biomass distribution of different DBH class followed normal distribution, and trees with DBH between 12—24 cm were most abundant. It was well known that trunk biomass decrease with increase in height. The aboveground vertical biomass accumulated in the vertical zone between 2—8 m, which was more than that of both above and below. The biomass dynamic analysis of the major community types showed that the forest stands in this area were 20—50 years old.
