Abstract: In this paper, bamboo materials was carbonized at varying temperature and used to adsorb single and mixture solutions of heavy metal ions. The results showed that bamboo charcoal has physical and chemical adsorption. The absorption properties were related to the specific surface area, pore size and the pH value. Absorption rate of bamboo charcoal was enhanced with the impregnated time. Bamboo charcoal adsorption of heavy metal ions had selectivity. Bamboo charcoal with carbonization temperature of 800℃ had better adsorption for Hg2+, Pb2+, Cr6+, but bamboo charcoal which was carbonized at 1 000℃ had good adsorption for Cd2+. When the mixture of several metal ions coexisted, the property of bamboo charcoal adsorption for heavy metal ions had the characteristics of synergy and impede. If it was compared with a single heavy metal ions, the adsorption rates of Pb2+, Hg2+, Cr6+ increased and the adsorption rate of Cd2+ decreased.
