Abstract: Effects of temperature and relative humidity(RH) on relative crystallinity of wood were discussed in this paper. Specimens from Japanese Sugi(Cryptomeria japonica Don)wood were treated with superheated steam under different temperature (120, 140, 180 ℃) and different RH (0, 60 %, 100 %), and the effects on relative crystallinity of wood was examined by Xray diffractometer. The highest relative crystallinity was found on specimens treated with the highest temperature and the highest RH by orthogonal experiment analysis. It was found that temperature has more important effect than RH. Variance analysis showed that relative crystallinity depends more significantly on temperature, and less significantly on RH.
