Abstract: The Cd, Pb, Zn, Cu contents of soil at Dabaoshan mine were analyzed and the condition of soil pollution caused by heavy metal was evaluated by using single factor pollution index and N. L. Nemerow comprehensive pollution index in this paper. The results showed that there were great difference in the content of heavy metals of different soil, but they were all significantly higher than the background value of heavy metal of soil in Guangdong province. Within the 27 soil samples, single factor pollution indexes of Cd and Cu were all greater than 1, all of which exceeded the standard. There were 21 samples that the number of the single factor pollution index of Pb and Zn were greater than 1,and the exceeding standard rate was 77.8%. The N. L. Nemerow comprehensive pollution indexes of 27 soil samples were in the range of 5.74-157.23, and were over 3.It was indicated that the soil has been severely polluted by heavy metal, especially by Cd and Cu.
