Abstract: Twentyfour casuarina clones grown in two sites in Hainan, viz. Daodong Forest Farm and Wenchang Forest Institute, were assessed for survival, height, diameter at breast height (DBH), stem form, and wind resistance. There were significant differences in height and DBH among the 24 clones at both trial sites at age 5. Their mean height, DBH, and individual tree volume were 132 m, 106 cm and 0048 m3 respectively, with the best clone reaching 152 m, 130 cm, and 10667 m3/hm2 respectively. Based on comprehensive evaluation, clones A1, F41, Nanshan 8,A13,F40, and ZaJiao were considered suitable for Daodong Forest Farm, and clones F71,701,A13,A8,F20, and ZJ-001 suitable for Wenchang Forest Institute. Growth curve of height and DBH of clones over 5 years showed active growth throughout the whole period. However, the fastest growth rate was found in the second year. Further observations are required to determine the optimum rotation age of casuarina plantation in Hainan.
